in the beginning
there were the heavens, the earth and the end
the realm of gods, the realm of mortals, and the space between
the great creator appointed the heavenly deities as guardians of mortality and its entities
THUS, THEY BUILT THE EARTH
from their lungs they exhaled the air we breathe
with their fingertips they drew out the constellations
anger dug crevasses into the land and joy extended mountainous peaks into the sky
where they walked, footprints filled with waters to form lakes and rivers
forests and grasslands were spun from locks of their hair, life springing from seeds sown by their hands
humanity was the final gift bestowed upon a glorious world
OUR HISTORY HAS BEEN LONG
we are no strangers to war, famine, disease and disadvantage
the gods wanted only good for the people of our world, but their meddling was not without flaw
some sought to bring an end to their reign, to give humanity freedom from their will
but no human could compare to the power of the gods
still, even with their disciples singing their praises, it was not enough to convince humanity of their purpose
so they granted a select few humans the gift of their power
we, the blessed ones
chosen by the gods to guide humanity towards a brighter future
we are the guardians of the mortal realm
and unto that sacred vow
we shall offer our lives willingly
the gods of our realm
god
/ɡɒd/
a superhuman being or spirit worshipped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity.
Since the dawn of creation, the gods have existed alongside humans, acting as guardians of the four domains. Sometimes they act as passive onlookers, watching as humanity acts of its own volition, other times they step in and intervene to ensure the continuation of societies, the natural world, or humanity itself.
The natural power of the Gods has bled into the mortal realm, allowing humans to harness some of their immortal power, which has been used for better or for worse. Farmers have long utilised the power of the earthen domain to bolster their harvest, poets have used psychological power to influence their audiences, sailors used celestial power to guide their ships across the seas. Without this power, our society would not be what it is today.

THE ETHEREAL DOMAIN

The skies, stars, sun and moon, all were formed carefully by the deft handiwork of the ethereal gods. The ethereal domain is that which cannot be reached by the hands of mere mortals.
The great expanse above, stretching from the horizon to the endless depths of space, and everything contained within: heavenly bodies, which push and pull against the earth below. The radiant warmth of the sun, the tidal pull of the moon, the guiding light of the stars, each influence the earth despite their immeasurable distance from its surface.

THE PHYSICAL DOMAIN

The earth was the product of the labour of great minds: the physical domain was built to be the perfect paradise for the gods, humanity and every creature that would fill its lands and seas. But this paradise was not to be, as humanity corrupts all. Disturbing the fine balance, and taking the earth for his own put him at odds with the earth gods, but to this day they hold onto the hope that humanity will see the errors of their ways.
The psychological gods did warn them this was not in the nature of humans.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DOMAIN

With a world to fill, the gods of humanity filled it with diverse minds, ready to bring ideas and creativity to the world. They didn't warn the other domains of the inherent conflict that came with sentience, but by the time they realised humanity wasn't a force for peace, there was nothing to be done.
With the good comes the bad: for every creative mind, there is a destructive to match. Humanity is inherently chaotic, but they bring a beauty to the world that no creature can imitate.

THE PRIMORDIAL DOMAIN

What has always been and always will be. The reality we take for granted, holding together the domains with strict laws. Without them, the universe would shatter and cease to be.
The primordial gods haven't dabbled in human affairs as closely as the other gods. They need not fear the destruction of their domain, at least not until humanity can defy the very laws they are bound by. No human can escape life, space, death, fate, and the chaos that underpins everything. The primordial gods exist on the edge of understanding
